이진주 Jin Ju Lee
Film & Video Editor
Jin Ju Lee is a Korean filmmaker and editor based in Berlin, whose practice has been shaped between South Korea and Germany. Working across different cinematic forms, she is currently focused on documentary as a space to explore the complexities of personal lives, relationships, and memory.
She is particularly drawn to the contradictions, silences and shifting relationships that shape a person's life, and to forms of storytelling that allow these complexities to unfold over time. For her, editing is not only a process of shaping narrative, but also a way of staying with what remains unresolved.
Originally trained in filmmaking at Dongguk University in Seoul, she later completed an M.F.A. in Film Editing at Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in Germany.
Her work as an editor includes My Missing Aunt (2024), which screened at festivals including Hot Docs, Jeonju International Film Festival and Budapest International Documentary Festival, and My Grandmother is a Skydiver (2025), which premiered in the La Cinef Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the 2025 First Steps Award.
She currently works as a freelance filmmaker and editor on international productions, with a particular focus on documentary.
현재 베를린을 중심으로 한국과 독일을 오가며 작업하고 있다. 다양한 영화적 형식을 넘나들며 작업해 왔으며, 현재는 다큐멘터리를 중심으로 개인의 삶과 관계, 기억의 복잡성을 탐구하고 있다.
특히 한 사람의 삶을 이루는 모순과 침묵, 그리고 끊임없이 변화하는 관계에 주목한다. 이러한 복잡성이 시간 속에서 천천히 드러날 수 있도록 하는 서사적 형식에 끌리며, 편집을 단순히 이야기를 구성하는 과정이 아니라 아직 해결되지 않은 것들을 끝까지 들여다보고 함께 머무르는 방식으로 바라본다.
서울의 동국대학교에서 영화 제작을 전공한 뒤, 독일의 Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF에서 영화 편집 전공으로 MFA를 마쳤다.
편집자로서 〈양양〉(2024), <비커밍 킴>(2026) 등의 작품에 참여했으며, 〈양양〉은 Hot Docs, 전주국제영화제, 부다페스트 국제다큐멘터리영화제 등을 비롯한 여러 영화제에서 상영되었다. 〈My Grandmother is a Skydiver〉(2025)는 칸 영화제 La Cinef 공식 선정작으로 초청되어 월드 프리미어를 가졌으며, 2025 First Steps Award 후보에 올랐다.
