이진주 Jin Ju Lee
Film & Video Editor
Jin Ju Lee is a Berlin-based film editor working across fiction and non-fiction films that explore themes between Asia and Europe.
Originally trained in filmmaking at Dongguk University in Seoul. Her debut short film 'Dying Vincent' (2018) received the 'Excellent Film' award at the Asia International Youth Film Festival, inspiring her to specialize in film editing.
Transitioning to freelance work, she made her mark as the editor of the animated documentary 'Melody' (2021), a film that explored the lives of individuals dealing with schizophrenia. This project was showcased at prestigious festivals, including the Seoul Independent Film Festival, DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, and Seoul Women’s Film Festival.
In 2021, she extended her horizons by pursuing film editing studies at Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in Germany. Her first feature-length documentary as editor, 'My Missing Aunt' (2024), was screened at major international and domestic festivals, including Hot Docs, Jeonju International Film Festival, and Budapest International Documentary Festival.
Most recently, her graduation film 'My Grandmother is a Skydiver' (2025), completed as part of her M.F.A in Film Editing had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival - La Cinef Official Selection.
She continues to work as a freelance editor on a range of international productions, crafting emotionally resonant and rhythmically intuitive stories that bridge cultures and cinematic forms.
서울에서 영화영상학을 전공하고 현재 독일 영화대학 Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF에서 편집 석사 과정에 재학 중이다. 독일 베를린에서 다큐멘터리와 극영화를 넘나드는 다양한 작품에 참여해왔다.
본인의 첫 연출작 ‘다잉 빈센트’(2018)를 편집한 것을 시작으로 다양한 작품에 편집자로 참여했다. 편집감독으로 참여한 애니메이션 다큐멘터리 ‘선율’(2021)은 서울독립영화제, DMZ 국제다큐멘터리영화제, 네마프 등 국내 다양한 영화제에서 상영되었고, 서울국제여성영화제 아시아단편경쟁 심사위원 특별언급과 광화문국제단편영화제 뉴필름메이커상을 수상하였다.
2021년부터 독일에 거주하며 프리랜서 에디터이자 영화 편집감독으로 활동 중이다. 첫 장편 다큐멘터리 편집작 '양양'(2024)는 Hot Docs, 전주국제영화제, 부다페스트 국제 다큐멘터리 영화제 등 유수의 국내외 영화제에서 상영되었다.
편집 석사 과정 졸업작품으로 참여한 애니메이티드 다큐멘터리 'My Grandmother is a Skydiver'는 2025 칸 영화제 La Cinef 부문에 공식 초청되어 월드 프리미어를 가졌다.
